Some of the most scary costumes for Halloween are based on the evil villain characters found in the current crop of popular movies. The success of these movie series at the box office have created an instant recognition and fear factor – even beyond “Elm Street!”
The first of these evil villains, popularized in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movie series is the unforgettable Freddy Krueger. Following a string of child kidnap murders, Mr. Krueger is eventually confronted and subsequently burned to toast, by his angry Elm Street neighbors, who lob a Molotov cocktail his way (Mr. Krueger never had very good hands when it came to playing catch). Following his grilling and demise, Freddy makes a deal with 3 demons, to stick around for awhile in the dreams of his neighbors and is allowed to shred these folks with his “slice and dice” finger nails, while they are asleep and dreaming. Notable “Freddy” characteristics include his previously mentioned knife-like finger nails, burn scarred face and fedora.
If you want scary – consider the Freddy costume! If you should actually live on an Elm St.and hate your neighbors, this costume is a must and will be well received by your neighbors.
Next up in our scary costume parade is Jason Voorhees, best known for his sadistic and evil
butchery of teen campers who cross his path on the “Friday the 13th” film series. Originally the son of the camp cook, Mrs. Voorhees, Jason began his killing career using his iconic hockey face mask and machete at Camp (Blood). Jason has gone on to visit hell, spar with Freddy Krueger and even manage to carry out murder in space – what a guy!
And what would Halloween be without the star of the “Halloween” movie series, the irrepressible Michael Myers. Although permanently institutionalized for the murder of his older sister in the first Halloween Movie, Michael is very adept at escaping on subsequent Halloweens, in order to commit murder and mayhem in his home town. Michael has a thing about teenaged girls and is very quick with the kitchen knife. He is also well known for his expressionless mask – a very cool costumer.
Two other psychotic killers that are well known for their unique killing styles and strike terror
in the heart of any well rounded citizen, are Leather Face, main protagonist in the “Texas Chain Saw Massacre” and Hannibal Lecter of “Silence of the Lambs.” Both of these characters have a penchant for cannibalism and wear interesting masks. Leather Face wears a mask of human skin/leather and uses a chainsaw to butcher his prey, while Hannibal uses his evil genius and psychology as a weapon and is forced to wear a mouth guard type mask while institutionalized, to prevent him from chewing on the guards and visitors.
These are all “killer” costumes, no pun intended and are guaranteed to strike fear into your neighbors and friends alike. Scary costumes for Halloween- a Happy Halloween!
